The Tim David IPL ban has been confirmed after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter received his third sanction of the season during Sunday’s IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
David will miss Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s opening match of IPL 2027 after being found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Gujarat Titans’ innings.
The sanction came in a dramatic final that also saw Virat Kohli stars as Royal Challengers Bengaluru secure back to back IPL titles as Royal Challengers Bengaluru defended their 2025 crown.
David sanctioned after ice bag incident
The incident took place during the 10th over of Gujarat Titans’ innings, after Jordan Cox’s catch off Washington Sundar was ruled not out.
According to an IPL media release, “during the 10th over of Gujarat Titans' innings. Following the fall of a wicket [Jordan Cox's catch off Washington Sundar ruled not out], David threw an ice bag aggressively in the direction of umpire Nitin Menon,”
David was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
The article covers “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match.”
RCB title win followed by suspension blow
David admitted the offence and accepted the sanction handed down by match referee Javagal Srinath.
The penalty took him to five demerit points for the season, triggering a one-match ban.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the IPL 2026 final to win their second title and successfully defend their 2025 championship.
Fans can follow official tournament updates, fixtures and disciplinary notices through the Indian Premier League website.
The ban means David’s next IPL campaign will begin one match later than his teammates, adding an early selection issue for the defending champions.
