The 2026 CODE Sports NBL Blitz will head to Bendigo, Victoria, with the National Basketball League confirming the pre-season event will run from September 2 to September 6 at Red Energy Arena. All 10 NBL clubs from Australia and New Zealand will take part in the tournament as teams fine-tune preparations before the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season begins on September 19. The return of the Blitz to Bendigo matters for both basketball fans and local businesses, with thousands expected to travel into the region across the five-day event.
Bendigo set for busy basketball week
The schedule includes 10 games across five days, with opening night featuring the Cairns Taipans against the Perth Wildcats before the Sydney Kings face South East Melbourne Phoenix. Melbourne United, Illawarra Hawks, Adelaide 36ers and Tasmania JackJumpers are also part of the packed line-up.
Crowds are expected to create a finals-like atmosphere despite the games being pre-season fixtures. Fans in regional Victoria last saw the Blitz hosted in Bendigo back in 2018, and the upgraded Red Energy Arena is now better equipped after the addition of new indoor courts and lighting upgrades.
Community impact beyond basketball
The Victorian Government is backing the event through its Regional Events Fund, with local hotels, cafes and restaurants expected to benefit from the visitor boost. Organisers also confirmed player clinics and school visits will be part of the week, giving young basketball fans direct access to NBL stars.
