Lady Of Camelot stingray attack news has shocked Australian racing, with the Golden Slipper winner under specialist veterinary care after being injured while swimming at a Brisbane beach on Tuesday.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare suffered near foreleg wounds at Nudgee Beach and has been scratched from Saturday’s $1.5 million Doomben 10,000.
The setback comes during a busy racing week that also includes Classic Gem’s Flemington maiden bid after strong Stakes runs, while official racing updates are available through Racing Queensland.
Royal Ascot Trip Cancelled
Connections have cancelled Lady Of Camelot’s planned Royal Ascot trip, where she was set to face elite international sprinters next month.
“Our mare’s recovery and well-being are absolute priorities,” owner Sir Owen Glenn said. “She has been scratched from the Doomben Ten Thousand and her Royal Ascot trip booking is cancelled. There’ll be an early decision on her racing future.”
Lady Of Camelot has earned $5.9 million in stakes and is now expected to be considered for retirement.
The powerful bay is also a highly rated breeding prospect after her top-level juvenile record.
Bott Details Beach Incident
Bott said Lady Of Camelot was exercising in shallow water when the stingray struck.
“She sustained wounds near joints and was immediately treated by our stable vet,” Bott said. “We then swiftly took her to a specialist clinic where she remains under thorough attention, as vets watch for after-effects and guard against infection.”
Lady Of Camelot won the Golden Slipper at Rosehill after finishing a close second in the 2024 Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.
Ascot Plans Continue for Overpass
Overpass remains on track for the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.
Trainer Bjorn Baker said the sprinter’s travel record should help after wins in two Quokkas and two Winterbottom Stakes.
