Port Adelaide face a major Anzac Day test as they prepare to stop Jeremy Cameron when Geelong visits Adelaide Oval on Saturday night. The Cats forward arrives in top form after kicking 10 goals last week, and Power coach Josh Carr says no single defender can handle the task alone. With Port trying to lift from a 2-4 start, this match shapes as an early-season chance to reset momentum in front of a big home crowd.
Port Expect Full-Team Job on Cameron
Cameron has troubled Port Adelaide before, and Carr made it clear the Power must defend as a unit.
"It looks a bit different because Cameron, he can be deep in the forward 50 and then he can go up to a stoppage," Carr told reporters.
"And we're going to need more than Miles Bergman to play on Cameron to get the job done - Lachie Jones, he's done it before.
"That's a probably a bit of everyone - and that's on the team as well to make sure we're defending well as a team, and not giving him the service ... we need everyone."
The challenge is not only stopping Cameron in one-on-one contests, but cutting the supply before it reaches him.
Confidence Growing at Port Adelaide
Despite sitting 12th, Carr said last week's narrow loss to Hawthorn showed progress.
"The players are more confident in what we're doing, more confident in their own roles within that system," he said.
Supporters saw better ball movement and stronger pressure late in that game, signs Port believe their system is starting to click.
Midfield Battle Could Decide Result
Geelong's Oisin Mullen is expected to run with Zak Butters, while Jason Horne-Francis may also receive close attention.
"You plan for him to get tagged every week so it's no different," Carr said.
If Port wins the midfield battle, their chances rise sharply against one of the AFL's most reliable contenders.
