Melbourne forward Brody Mihocek is recovering well after undergoing surgery for a neck fracture suffered during the Demons' eight-point AFL King's Birthday victory over Collingwood at the MCG on Monday night. The injury occurred in a tackle, forcing a lengthy stoppage before Mihocek was stretchered from the field and transported to hospital. The update is significant for Melbourne as the club awaits a timeline for his recovery.
Positive Update After Surgery
Melbourne confirmed the operation was successful and that Mihocek is already walking.
"Mihocek successfully underwent surgery overnight and doctors have since provided a positive update, confirming he is up and walking today," the Demons said in a statement.
General manager Alan Richardson added:
"You never want to see an incident in our game like what we saw with Brody on Monday."
"Brody is in the very best of care and was able to undergo surgery last night, which, thankfully, went as planned."
"Our primary focus right now is supporting Brody, his partner Polly, and their family through his recovery, while ensuring his return to full health."
Additional Injury Concern
Collingwood defender Brayden Maynard also suffered two shoulder dislocations and is awaiting further assessment.
