FIFA and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) have confirmed a major partnership ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, with PIF named Official Tournament Supporter across North America and Asia. The agreement was announced on 15 May 2026 and adds another major chapter to Saudi Arabia’s growing involvement in global football. With the tournament expanding to 48 teams and 104 matches across the United States, Canada and Mexico, the deal matters because it connects one of the world’s biggest sporting events with Saudi Arabia’s long-term sports investment strategy.
PIF Expands Presence in Global Football
The partnership will be supported through two major PIF-backed projects, Savvy Games Group and Qiddiya City. Both organisations are expected to lead fan engagement activities during the tournament while promoting entertainment and gaming experiences linked to football supporters around the world.
Crowds are expected to reach record levels during the 2026 World Cup, especially in major host cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Mexico City. FIFA believes the partnership can help connect younger audiences to football through digital experiences and live events surrounding the tournament.
FIFA chief business officer Romy Gai said:
“Together, we look forward to delivering a historic tournament that inspires and unites fans from around the world.”
He added:
“The partnership with PIF will help grow our sport across the globe through unlocking new opportunities, fostering innovation and engaging youth, ensuring that millions of young people have the chance to play football and enjoy its many benefits.”
Saudi Arabia Strengthens Football Ambitions
PIF has continued increasing its influence in football through club investments, sponsorships and international partnerships. The fund previously worked with FIFA during the FIFA Club World Cup and has also partnered with Concacaf competitions.
Head of corporate brand at PIF Mohamed AlSayyad said football remains central to the organisation’s sporting plans.
“PIF continues to expand its global footprint in sport, with football at the heart of this growth.
“This partnership builds on our existing FIFA relationship from last year’s FIFA Club World Cup – and our work with Concacaf – to deliver a positive and lasting impact.
“PIF continues to accelerate the growth of football globally by expanding access to the game and creating opportunities that benefit players, fans and the wider football ecosystem.”
Saudi Arabia’s rise in football has remained a major talking point across the sport, especially after becoming the sole bidder for the FIFA World Cup 2034.
Bigger World Cup Awaits Fans
The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be the largest edition in tournament history. The competition runs from 11 June to 19 July 2026 and will feature matches across 16 cities in three countries. The final is scheduled for New York New Jersey Stadium.
Fans can expect a different atmosphere compared to previous tournaments. The expanded format means more nations, larger travelling support bases and longer match schedules. Stadiums are expected to deliver packed crowds and festival-style environments throughout the competition.
